Quarter Days

You may encounter some leases that do not provide specific dates, rather they say that charges are due on the “Quarter Days”. This term is a bit of a historical hangover, with the dates being observed since the Middle Ages for things such as hiring servants, school terms and (importantly here) when rents were due. But do you know what the Quarter Days are?

Working with these dates can be quite difficult due to none of them falling at nice points in the month. You’ll even have the lovely task of servicing a service charge demand on leaseholders at Christmas! But you must follow what the lease states and knowing these dates is important.
